Types of check
Standard Disclosure
As from 12th October 2009, Standard disclosures are now no longer available for those working with children or vulnerable adults. A Standard disclosure will now only reveal information which is held on the PNC (Police National Computer) and will no longer provide information from the government lists or the new barred lists.
Enhanced Disclosure
This is the highest level of check available to anyone involved in regularly caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults.
Enhanced disclosures contain information from the PNC, just like a Standard disclosure does but also contains information from the 2 new barred lists –
- ISA Children’s List
- ISA Vulnerable Adults list
An Enhanced disclosure will also reveal information that is held under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002 (formerly known as List 99). As from 12th October 2009, the eligibility criteria for an Enhanced disclosure has been extended to include anyone working in a regulated activity with a Regulated Activity Provider.
The CRB recognises that the Standard and Enhanced Disclosure information can be extremely sensitive and personal, therefore it has published a Code of Practice and employers’ guidance for recipients of Disclosures to ensure they are handled fairly and used properly.
